Hi Annette! I have a Lap Top I think it is a Dell or Toshiba. It has a numpad. It has windows XP media so I did have to purchase the JAWS professional. It seems to be working well. Hope

I have always figured that a number pad was just that. .David Ferrin [EMAIL PROTECTED] .Consciousness is that annoying time between naps. .----- Original Message ----- .From: Annette Carr .To: [email protected] .Sent: Thursday, September 14, 2006 2:38 PM .Subject: RE: [jaws-users] laptop features . . .David, . .Do you have any recommendations for an external number pad? I've bought 2 .and neither would work with JAWS in the Numlock off mode. . .Annette . . .-----Original Message----- .From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On .Behalf Of David Ferrin .Sent: Thursday, September 14, 2006 8:52 AM .To: [email protected] .Subject: Re: [jaws-users] laptop features . .You could also purchase an external USB number pad for such purposes. .David Ferrin [EMAIL PROTECTED] .Consciousness is that annoying time between naps. .----- Original Message ----- .From: Annette Carr .To: [email protected] .Sent: Thursday, September 14, 2006 8:13 AM .Subject: RE: [jaws-users] laptop features . .Clifford, . .Interesting recommendation of finding a laptop with a built-in num pad. .I've been using laptops for almost 20 years, before laptops had hard drives. .I use the JAWS desktop keyboard layout on the laptop. I access the num pad .with the laptop's function key. This is not always the best option, but I'm .very used to it. However, I do use a variety of external keyboards. My .favorite for travel is the Flexi-keyboard. It is light-weight and takes up .very little room in my backpack. It does take some getting used to, but the .newer models provide you with much more tactile feedback. . .Given that I often work with a variety of different types of assistive .technology, I have found HP's to not be up to the job. I used Toshiba's for .years, but now find that Dell's can handle pretty much anything that I throw .at it. . .Annette . .-----Original Message----- .From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On .Behalf Of clifford .Sent: Thursday, September 14, 2006 4:49 AM .To: [email protected] .Subject: [jaws-users] laptop features . .Dear list members: .I have a H. P. zd 8000 which sits on my desk at the office and functions .much like a desk top, as it has the numeric keypad built right in. This .machine is large with a 17 inch screen and weighs eight pounds or so. The .batter life is relatively short also. Do any of you know of a lap-top which .also has the numeric key pad built in, but which is lighter and with longer .than an hour battery life? .Annette, I would suggest looking at the H. P. zd series of computers, if .your use will be primarily at the office. The built in key pad is great when .using Jaws. . .Yours Truly, . .Clifford Wilson . .[Non-text portions of this message have been removed] . .Visit the JAWS Users list home page at: .http://www.jaws-users.com . .For a complete list of email commands pertaining to the JAWS Users List send .a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] . .Visit the new archives page at the following address .http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ .Yahoo!
