Peggy:
Make sure you are on the desktop when you press J.  Also, Insert plus J 
should bring up the Jaws window.  When you press alr F4 when in the Jaws 
window, Jaws will think you want to quit the program.  Just minimize 
everything and go to the desktop and that window will go away.  Alternately, 
there is a way to run Jaws so that it doesn't have a full screen window 
open, called running it from the system tray.  Let me know if I can help 
further.
