Your input is a large factor as well since I don't really know how
different the hibernate 3.1rc2jboss version that was shipped with
4.0.3SP1 and the current version needed for ejb3. The first question, is
what do you want bundled in terms of stability/support?

If this is not what is needed for ejb3 then we need to decouple the
jbossas build from the ejb3 hibernate dependency and deal with ejb3 as a
separate component integrated into the installer with a separate
hibernate dependency that replaces/differs from the default/all version.
