Vinay, Addressing your points:
1) By saying "got it to work" I meant I extracted the zip file, set execute permissions on run_with_catalina.sh, started it up, and dropped my app into the deploy directory. It doesn't get much simpler than that. 2) I don't think you're screwed. Though yes, I'm having trouble with mod_webapp proxying to jboss/tomcat (a) that's not JBoss' fault - it's the mod's, (b) there is, believe it or not, a version of mod_jk for tomcat 4 in the works, and (c) you should evaluate how much of your content is dynamic and how much is static. If all your pages are dynamic, Apache isn't buying you much - in fact the mod_xxx go-between might be dragging you down. There's been a lot of discussion on this, especially now that rumor has it Tomcat 4 screems like Jetty. Everyone agrees Tomcat 3 was (is) slow. I think, initially, Tomcat was designed to be a standards-compliance testbed (read: reference impl). I don't think they every intended people to go to production with it. Tomcat 4 is a completely new architecture, though - one which is much more ready for prime time. 3) I agree with you on this point, though my preference is to always deploy via jboss, because it's so much easier for me (Ant just drops in the file and I'm up and running). I hope there will be a release soon where tomcat 4's server.xml is respected. That was a problem with the JBoss/Tomcat3 bundle for a while. David -- menonv wrote: > David, > > 1.
