God forbid a small company or some other open-source group gets a hold of the standard 
early-on and does something meaningful with it. Maybe even accelerates the process.  I 
mean, where is the money it that for the big boys who use the JCP for grand standing 
there "dedication" to open-source.

AFAIK, JSR 168 is completely different than that of the proposal within the Jetspeed 
CVS.  As Andrew said, everyone, including David is under NDA, so I doubt you will find 
that JSR 168 is in sync with anything that already exist, either from IBM or Jetspeed.
