Mr Spencer,
Yes, I understand that Cocoon and Jetspeed are not integrated "straight out
of the box"

I meant that for right now one chooses to go the Turbine/Velocity path
(with Jetspeed right in there) or chooses the Cocoon path - that is what i
meant by an "alternative". I surely did not wish to insinuate that
Turbine/Velocity or Cocoon could alternatively be used with Jetspeed.
 Sorry about the confusion.

I did not ask the question. Mr Munis asked the question. He asked a
question that plays on everyone's mind when they enter the
jakarta.apache.org site - what is all of this great stuff? how can it best
be put to use?

No one will ever find the answers to those questions in the mail list in a
single lifetime. The documentation (which the developers AND anyone who
uses the open source products are responsible to create and maintain) is
the source for gaining insight into the products.

I certainly agree with you that some of us ask such open-ended question
that you would need to waste a great deal of time and energy to answer -
and that is just plain asking TOO much. We need to word our questions
better and look for previously answered questions.

i am looking forward to the day when i have learned enough that i can
contribute,
Ray

Ray,
Jetspeed directly uses Velocity and JSP for layout and content
generation. Turbine, ECS, Log4J, are also used by Jetspeed. Currently
it does NOT use Cocoon! Their has been interest in a Cocoon portlet for
a while, but it as not be implemented. Implementing a Cocoon portlet is
  on the ToDo list.

Not in Jetspeed!

As to my "poor answer". I did not have the time to do the research need
to answer your question, but I knew it had been asked and answered
before and the answers where in the mailing list. I view the mailing
list a valuable resource that should be utilized.
