I've got a requirement to build a portal site for a client
that has a few requirements that Jetspeed doesn't meet,
but don't seem to be too much to add on, I'll list
there here and see how much of a fool I make of
myself if I don't full understand what Jetspeed is about ...

Of course, it may not be something that Jetspeed is
supposed to meet, and I should start with turbine and
build it all myself on it's framework.

And I'll also put my hand up to do them if they aren't
there, and need to be done ...

* I need a content management system. The client
essentially wants an on-line magazine, where either
their own writers write or users "out there" write a story
and then it goes through the sub-editor/editor/embargo/publish/drop
system. Also spell checking, which isn't too hard as well.
I'm pretty sure Jetspeed doesn't do this and I think
it would be a great feature to have (cause then we can also
export the content for other portlets to pick up).

Also on this would be like a "what's new" portlet for
the new articles.

* Along with the content management system would be the
information architecture/menu etc that goes with it,
it would be great to be able to add sections, etc
without having to hand code xml/whatever, cause the
client wants to maintain as much of the system as possible.
(Which I'd also prefer) ...

* Stats collection, which is fairly important. Although
I could do some tricky parsing of the log files, I'd
rather a connection between the logged in user and
where they are going on the site, what they read.

* Discussion groups, with a system for deleting content
that is considered inappropriate and simple
admin tools to create new groups.

* Live chat (although I'd probably use an irc server
with a java applet for this independent of the web server)

* Search engine for each section (content, discussion
groups, mailing lists)

Thanks ... It's something that will take a few months to
do (we have about 3 months with the client) and also
depends if I can convince the client that they don't
purchase the software, but licence it from me)
