I'm with Luc here. And there's nothing stupid about it. It seems like
a lot of people came at this like I did: The Apache brand, good press
and a version number above 0.x make it seem like the product would come
up and be useful with a minimum of having to read long config files with
a puzzled look on your face.

The reason I picked up Jetspeed was it looked like it could be a
shortcut to fill my need to create an intranet portal where I could
offer our users a page like my.netscape.com with (mostly) local
content. I'm not prepared to write a line of java, and I'd prefer not
to have to read any either! (I'm plowing through "Just Java" in my
spare time, with an aim of being literate and informed, but I'm never
going to be a java programmer.) I _am_ prepared to create html, xml,
rss (I think) as automatic output from a variety of local systems. I
had hoped that Jetspeed could pick up this content and allow our users
to choose what they want to see, or allow me to offer predefined subsets
to various groups of users. From the posts of the last few days, I'm
not sure now that Jetspeed can do this "out of the box".

It sounds like there are others on the list with similar goals; maybe
we could work together. In the software's current state, though, I
think we'd only make real progress if we had help from the developers.
I'd also be willing to help make some kind of "Jetspeed for Dummies"
document. -- Brian
