Yes, why are conscient of this limitation. The current Customizer is
very limited, and is not conscient of the complexity of PSML. It just
builds a list of the selected portlets in a standard way. When you use
it to edit any complex psml, it does not know how to handle it and it
does not work. I think the results are not saved, so you can restore you
working psml by restarting tomcat.

I am not sure about this one. I wil try more. Any other people knows?

Our current view on the Content Management issue is:
Jetspeed will not enter deeply the Content Management Area, since it is
a deep enoguh field. There are already some interesting projects on this
issue ( Apache slide, struts?, Infozone prowler, ... )
Nevertheless:
We always wanted to deliver Jetspeed as a standalone runnable app. We
feel that for serious use, it will have to be integrated with a CMS, but
we will deliver with a simple resource manager and some simple
information channels (like now).
On the other side, the Customiser is taken as something important, and
we are giving more work to it, except it still does not show. At the
moment, we are concentrating in more stable code and better behaviour of
the layout system. I would not say that we consider the Customizer part
of the Content Management System, except for the storage of PSML itself.
I hope I have summarized correctly. If not, somebody from the list will
come upon me. (They are watching now, you know? :).
If you are interested in fixing this feature or even enhancing it, come
on and do it.
The best way is:
You write a mail explaining what is the general direction of your work.
After the discussion or the noise of the clapping hand vanishes :) you
either become a commiter or you send patches to any of us. Then you get
hooked and this is your end as a productive person :)
I hope you are still intersted in working with us. With regards to your
lack of experience in Open Source Development, you will discover that
the trickiest part is to manage timing and code change when you don't
control resource allocation. On the other side, things happen even when
you are sick (I'm getting up after a terrible week) and sometimes you
can get frightened on how many people in the world is thinking exactly
the same things that you are thinking at exactly the same time.
So, I think the better strategy is to ge very incremental and to pave
the way so that things "can't avoid happening". So, you approach is not
"to make things happen", but "to make happen the things I need" and "to
stay out of the way", so that you don't stop things happening.
Regards
