Ardella,

Well, if he goes through money quickly and he is saving to buy himself a car....then that is HIS problem, right?  There were many times I didn't have money for gas and my dad basically told me that it was my own fault (which it was, but it seemed pretty harsh at the time).  I am still not very good with the whole budget thing, but getting better.  If he has to pay his own way (or part of it) it not only helps you out financially but teaches him responsibility at the same time.  Part of that responsibility is learning to budget and prioritize.  Man, I sound like my dad.  Could it be happening?  I'm turning into my dad?  Ewwwwwww!!!!!!

Julie,

As of right now, my son is 15 and can only get odd jobs until he turns
16...........so far that is his plan so he can save for a car etc.......but
the way he goes through what money he does earn (most goes on cd's or his
girlfriend; occasionally some clothes) it will take him a while to save........
