Hi Leslie. Every three years or so I get hauled before the zoning board by my neighbors. We live just outside of the historic downtown district on an acre. My neighbors have lawn companies come and spray poisons on the earth or spew hydrocarbon exhausts to keep their lawns green and groomed. . .I don't WANT a lawn if that's what it takes and the end result is a single species of grass that isn't even indigenous to the area. ..I have an ecosystem, a fact in which I take a great deal of pride. (we harvest some of the 'weeds' for herbal tinctures and cooking even)
I tell the zoning board that I'm an environmentalist and am allowing our acre to be a bio diverse songbird habitat (we actually have deer and fox around here too) - works every time.
