Yes, I have learned that also. My water is very "hard" (high iron and other mineral content) where the soap companies advise using extra soap and I still use less than the recommended amount for regular water. Adding plain baking soda to your wash water allows you decrease the amount of soap you use also.

did you know that often you can use less powder than suggested?
I learned it on an other list,  where they suggest to try to do some things with halve of the product, like washingpowder, toothpaste, shampoo, and it does work!
and it saves money as well :-)
