Vanetta, We also have fairly *hard* water, but I've started using 1/2 the recommended amount of detergent and it does just fine. With whites I also use Biz or Oxyclean, but a small amount. Anything thats extremely dirty I pre-soak in Biz or Oxyclean.
I've heard of using the baking soda, but what exactly does that do?
