Carolyn, Are you certain that the check-writing template didn't use form fields, or maybe a table? The only way I know of to make sure that text doesn't push other text that follows it out of the way is if that text is in a table cell or a form field.
If you have a copy of the blank document that is the check fill-in template I'd be happy to take a look at it and see what's going on, and how it might be set up such that the various bits remain in precisely the same spots. Brian
