Brian, with your directions and a note I made some time ago, I think it's ok now.

another problem I just noticed is when I type or copy someone's address to print an envelope and press control+d to check font size, JAWS reports point, where's the size?

also mixed font and mixed style is announced. how do I fix this and the above size problem?

Mario,

My Normal.dotm is also 21KB in size, but I'm not sure what
you're telling me with regard to "I got a ding when I down arrowed."

Another option you have is to force MS-Word to regenerate a
new Normal.dotm. This is usually done when something has infected
Normal.dotm, but you can do it for a reason such as this. It's
definitely not normal for Normal.dotm to have white text on white
background by default. The instructions for purging a bad Normal.dotm
and making Word regenerate it follow:

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Close Word. Search for normal.dot or normal.dotm and rename any you
find that are in the infected user's folders (In this case that's your
own AppData\Microsoft\Templates folder. I just rename the file
OldNormal.dotm or just plain OldNormal). Then open Word by using the
All Programs link not by opening a document. Word should create a new
normal template. In Word:

 1. In Word 2010, click the *File *button, and then click *Options*.
 2. Click *Advanced*.
 3. Under *Save*, make sure the *Prompt before saving Normal
template* check box has a check in it.
 4. Click *OK* to close the *Word Options* dialog box.

You can probably skip the next 4 instructions, but these were part of
the originals I had. I would just skip to closing Word, just below step
4. Since we're not dealing with an infected file/macros, it's not
pertinent in this case.

 1. Click the *Microsoft Office Button* , and then click *Access Options*.
 2. Click *Trust Center*, click *Trust Center Settings*, and then click
    *Macro Settings*.
 3. Click the options that you want:
      * *Disable all macros with notification* This is the default
setting. Click this option if you want macros to be disabled,
but you want to get security alerts if there are macros present.
This way, you can choose when to enable those macros on a case
        by case basis.
 4. OK

Close Word. If it asks you to save the normal template say Yes this
time. In the future say No unless you have made a change to the default
- like font, font size or paper layout or similar.
