I tried manually updating the SBC today using Settings - Advanced -
Software Update. This usually pulls a new build off the Logitech
servers but seemed not to do anything today, the spinny just spun and
spun but no data was coming across my modem.

I then fired up the SC machine and tried updating from that (same
procedure). This time it was pulling data, but across my LAN, which
meant the firmware version in the Squeezecenter cache was being pulled.
Much to my surprise, this was r1819? So I stopped it - had to pull the
battery to prevent it as everything else was locked out.

Is r2085 the final version before SC7 goes gold then? Why do I have
r1819 in my cache folder?

SC details:

SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0 - 17786 - Debian - EN - utf8
Perl Version: 5.8.8 i486-linux-gnu-thread-multi
MySQL Version: 5.0.45-Debian_1ubuntu3.1
Platform Architecture: i686-linux
