This can be done in SqueezeCenter code, though not as elegantly as it could if there were a minor firmware change. After posting, I turned on my SB2, turned the volume way down, started a random song mix, jumped to the second song, and then turned off the SB2, all with its IR remote. Sometime late last night or early this morning, it came to life on its own.
