OK, excellent. I'm catching on. I would like to try to make this my first contribution. Let's see how it goes....

I'm up to compiling. I have Java SDK installed. When I try to run the build.xml I get:

com.sun.tools.javac.Main is not on the classpath.
Perhaps JAVA_HOME does not point to the JDK

This looks like a path variable. Windows? Eclipse? Where is it supposed to point to?

Try the following under Eclipse :
- menu Window / Preference
- select Java / Installed JREs
- click on Search and select a directory above your JDK installation
- let Eclipse search for the JDK, add it and check it in the list so it is this JDK that is used by Eclipse
