I don't think there should be a single representation called schematic
because this is a fairly generic word.  paraphrased from
Mirriam-Webster:

schematic.  an organized way of representing a complex situation. 

if Jmol is to offer different types of schematic rendering, we should
come up with more useful terminology.  for example, all of these are
schematic: 
   
   cartoon
   ribbons
   strands
   trace

another popular 'schematic' rendering (related to the Rasmolian cartoon)
is the "Richardson diagram" - helices are shown as solid cylinders, beta
strands as arrows.  also useful would be "ladders" and "rings" for
