Phil,
Good idea.
I have been using the following two pages from the chem.dept. server as my guide. Note that you must scroll down the first page to the jmol module, the second should appear directly.
http://www.cem.msu.edu/~reusch/VirtTxtJml/sterism3.htm#isom13
http://www.cem.msu.edu/~reusch/VirtualText/Questions/Stereocem/linstrprb.htm
By the way, a second trial in which I sandwiched your Fischer projection page between these two pages, followed by Tim's test page, resulted in the first three working well, but Tim's page did not.

I have a somewhat different experience, I think. Let's try to focus in on some specific sites to compare. I am using the following:
http://dev.molvisions.com/debugging/jmolcalls_nocallback.html
www.saintmarys.edu/~pbays/Stereochemistry/Fischer.htm
http://jmol.sourceforge.net/demo/atoms/
I find that if I load any one of the three into a fresh Safari, it works but the subsequent loads do not.
