So it looks like the change in the server configuration didn't have the
desired effect.

I only worked with the Apache web server so I can't help you with the
IIs server configuration.
The error message in the browser ("File not found") doesn't really
reflect the actual problem. For security reasons the server usually
doesn't tells the user all details why a page wasn't delivered.
A more detailed error message that might help to find the problem should
be within the server error logfile.
