Soundtracks can usually be a disappointment...most will give you the one or two good songs, and pump it full of instrumentals that don't work outside the film or other crud. Anyway, that being said, my favorite soundtrack records would be:
American Graffiti - The first record I ever bought for myself. Pure perfection from beginning to end, the songs work brilliantly in the film and of course all of these were huge hits anyway. How can you lose starting with "Rock Around The Clock" and finishing with "All Summer Long"? And some JC: Frankie Lymon's "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" is on it as well. I Am Sam - Just out this year, I love this one from start to finish. Beatles covers...hard to miss when you're singing these great songs. Badly Drawn Boy - About A Boy - It's a soundtrack! It's a solo recording! It's 2...2...2 discs in one! Whatever it is, it's infectious as hell and I never tire of hearing it. The Beatles - Yellow Submarine: Some fun original songs, but what I really like on this record is the orchestrated instrumentals by Sir George Martin. Luffly! Harry Nilsson - The Point: I remember watching this on the ABC Tuesday movie of the week, and then getting the LP (well, talking my sister into getting it because she had a job) and listening to it over & over & over & over.... Until The End Of The World - This one's so awesome it even features a good Jane Siberry track! ;~) A couple of throwaways, but mostly haunting stuff from a variety of artists. As far as Broadway soundtracks go, I always put West Side Story on the top of my list. As much as I love the Rodgers musicals both with Hart & Hammerstein, there is not one of them that is strong (song for song) as WSS in my book. Pippin also has to go on my list. Great songs, scads of unbelievable memories... That's enough for now. Bob NP: Big Yellow Taxi, "The Dawntreader" (this one alone is worth the price of admission...) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The information transmitted is intended only for the person or entity to which it is addressed and may contain confidential and/or privileged material.
