i can't speak for canada but in the states, in the 70's, the welfare system
made you feel like the lowest of lows.  one has to set a goal ... a
realistic goal ... then do everything in your power to achieve it.  the
system is there to assist and there ARE people there to help.  one just has
to find them.  unfortunately the people who criticize a person for being on
welfare get in the way.  one has to stay focused.

btw- i was on the system for 2 years.  it used to be a treat to take my 2 yr
old daughter to the local store in the summer for a popsicle when i had the
extra change.  simple memories.
