i can't speak for canada but in the states, in the 70's, the welfare system made you feel like the lowest of lows. one has to set a goal ... a realistic goal ... then do everything in your power to achieve it. the system is there to assist and there ARE people there to help. one just has to find them. unfortunately the people who criticize a person for being on welfare get in the way. one has to stay focused.
btw- i was on the system for 2 years. it used to be a treat to take my 2 yr old daughter to the local store in the summer for a popsicle when i had the extra change. simple memories. heather -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Mags N Brei Sent: Thursday, February 06, 2003 10:26 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: NJC welfare Mags in response to Sarah wrote: she must not have told either student loans or welfare that she was receiving both..and then she got caught. the system is not fair. How is one to get ahead if they cant even afford to live decently let alone go to school in order to hopefully gain a good job , become self sufficient, which is impossible to do on the money 'granted' from welfare or student loans. there is a high price to pay as demonstrated in this case. i am sorry to say that post secondary education in canada seems to be more of a privilege not a right.
