Mags, I don't get the impression from reading the Kimberly Rogers stories that people are allowed to have student loans and welfare at the same time in Canada, or perhaps it's just Ontario. Here's a very good story about Kimberly, a shocking story: http://dawn.thot.net/Kimberly_Rogers/kria137.html While she was not allowed to leave her home and was 8 months pregnant, she had only $18 a month to live on, after paying rent and making her student loan repayment. She was scared to go out, even into the back yard according to this story, because she thought the authorities would take her baby away if she got caught. In the event, the baby died with her.
Canada is a gentle, kind country, at least that's my experience of it, so this story stunned me and still does, especially the lack of sympathetic national media coverage.
