Joni does not 'pervert' the word clandestine. Anymore than she perverts the
word "omelette" in Carey. She's having fun with pronounciation- that's a
GOOD thing for a singer-songwriter to do. Unless, it's
"Songs she sang to me
Songs she brang to me." as someone pointed out recently. (Bob Mueller?)
You must cheer up Paul. Cheer up or I'll come over there and kick your ass.
:) I sentence you to hang by your thumbs until you cheer up. The

Personally, while I enjoyed plenty of bottles of liebfraumich in my late
teens and 20s, I think this is one of Joni's worst lyrics because she
perverts the pronunciation of clandestine, the preferred pronunciation of
which has a silent e on the end and the accent on the middle syllable.
Pronunciation: klan-'des-t&n
Maybe she should have tried to rhyme something with liebfraumilch instead of
Rhine wine.
