It makes no sense - the humor is in the absurdity and the droll way Letterman
drops in the non sequitur (spelling?)...
but that is his second Joni reference in recent time and it certainly tells
us that Dave has Joni on his mind; he must be a fan!

Hi, Vince:
I posted to the list a few weeks ago when Letterman said, "Liver in a
blender, isn't that an old Joni Mitchell song?" But last night's "blood and
peanut butter" reference to Joni was at least his THIRD recently. About a
week or ten days ago, I had his show on while I was puttering around and I
heard him say something else about a Joni song or album followed by audience
laughter, but I didn't catch what he said. I thought someone else on the JMDL
might have heard it, but it was never posted to the list.
In any case, I think Letterman has been funnier than ever lately. And with
regard to him having "Joni on his mind," if you caught Joni's last appearance
on the show -- it's on the video tree tapes -- he seems to treat her with a
kind of awe and reverence he rarely shows his guests, IMO.
Take care,
--Bob
