I'll field this one. Sharon is Joni -- or perhaps
more accurately -- the Joni that Joni herself is
wishing in the song that she could be. Now there's
probably a more "journalistic" explanation of the
character ... but if there's a "real" Sharon out
there, she's certainly someone Joni admired, and once
she got to thinking about it, wondered what she
herself would be like in that skin, and then put it
down "on the strings and the page."
