Sharon Bell was a childhood friend of Joni's. In an article from Musician
Magazine in May 1988, Joni said "Sharon Bell, in 'Song for Sharon,' was the
singer. I was going to grow up and marry a farmer, she was going to grow up
and be a singer. She married a farmer. That song has a little bit of
nostalgia. Sometimes I think I'd be better suited to living on a farm..."

David, IMO using Joni doesn't diminish her at all. I don't refer to her as
Joni Mitchell, but Joni. I certainly can appreciate your intent though.
