That would be Sharon Bell, a childhood friend of Joni's from her Maidstone
days. The most recent video tree features "Ashara's Wild & Crazy
Adventures" in Maidstone, where she was treated to the Joni Mitchell Museum
(actually just a corner of the Maidstone museum). Anyway, in the video are
some photos of Sharon and Joni as wee tykes, as well as the church
referenced in "when we were kids in Maidstone Sharon, I went to every
wedding in that little town".
If you don't have the latest videos, I'm sure if you ask someone would step
up and hook you up...
Song For Sharon partially refelected on a paradox; that being that Joni
dreamed of being a wife on a farm, and Sharon dreamed of being a singer. It
turned out the other way around, although Sharon did become a singer on a
more local basis and even recorded "Both Sides Now" under her married name
of Sharon Veer.
When I saw Joni perform the song on her '98 tour (the only performance of
SFS), she introduced it as "Song For Sharon Bell". I was delighted to hear
it as I love all of Hejira so much and SFS in particular.
