On the surface, some of it may seem happy but I find Pet Sounds to be an
album of sad songs. The Beach Boys that gets played on the radio definately
has a happy ring, but then that was part of the whole conflict between what
Brian Wilson was striving after and the band his father wanted them to be.
Stevie Wonder gets my award for writing about happiness and joy and having
it really come across in his songs (though his sadder songs are equally
exceptional.) Noone else makes me feel joy in the same way he manages to do
so effortlessly.
