<<Man, that's a great song on a great album.>>
The Doobies were one of my first loves. I saw them on the tour for this record
(Stampede) and thought they were great, especially "Cheat the Hangman"...
The Doobies get shortchanged, and I wish they hadn't re-formed and done the reunion
tour thing, but in the prime they rocked! Very few acts can string up 3 great records
in a row, and imo they had a four-timer:
Toulouse Street
Captain & Me
What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits
Stampede
Their debut was flawed, as was "Takin' it to the Streets", but these 4 are superb! For
me they still hold up and have only improved with time. Nice production by Ted
Templeman, and featuring Little Feat's Billy Payne on keys and Skunk Baxter on
guitars. I always enjoyed Tiran Porter's bass work and thought he was underrated...
