<<"Living on the Fault Line" is my all time favorite Doobies. It came out at
the same general time as the Dan's "AJA", James' "JT", and Joni's "Hejira"
had already been out for a while. Had 'em all on vinyl then. Wore the
damned things out! Now I got 'em on CD, still play the hell outa all of 'em.>>

True, Artheo, I can definitely relate...and I remember in the same time frame Laura
Nyro's "Nested", Al Jarreau's "Look to the Rainbow", And Be-Bop Deluxe, "Live In The
Air-Age", ALL of which stayed in heavy rotation. BUT, "Fault Line" was the biggest
bummer of the lot because this was the first one with NO Tom Johnston content
whatsoever! :~( At least he had a teasing presence on "Takin' it to the
Streets"...Looking at the "Fault Line"-up:

1. You're Made That Way
2. Echoes Of Love
3. Little Darling (I Need You)
4. You Belong To Me
5. Livin' On The Fault Line
6. Nothin' But A Heartache
7. Chinatown
8. There's A Light
9. Need A Lady
10. Larry The Logger Two-Step

The only tracks that stand out for me are 2, 5, and 8. The balance was so-so,
certainly listenable but not very memorable. Their cover of "Little Darlin" couldn't
hold a candle to the energy of "Take Me In Your Arms" from Stampede. I guess they
included "Need A Lady" so Porter wouldn't bolt from the band. And "Larry" REALLY paled
next to "Slat Key Soquel Rag", one of my fave guitar instrumentals of all-time along
with "The Clap" on The Yes Album.

A transitional record to be sure, it set up the dynamite "Minute by Minute" which
featured much better songs.

Well, I suppose that's more than anyone wanted to know, and of course it is 100% my
opinion...

Bob
