<<To put it very bluntly, President Bush is an
idiot when it comes to economics (and pretty much everything else.) >>
This stuck out as I was talking last night with my brothers-in-law about baseball, and
the seventh inning stretch in particular. I always thought that Taft was the reason
for the tradition, as he was so large he had to get up out of the small seat and
others in the ballpark would also stand out of respect. My brother-in-law said that
Calvin Coolidge's term saw the introduction of the seventh inning stretch.
Anyway, that wasn't my point...I mentioned that regardless of who the president was,
the thing was that the tradition began because of *respect* for the office of the
President. I'm not sure when that was lost, on Kennedy's death, maybe? (the end of
Camelot?) Seems like all our leaders now are guilty until proven innocent, maybe
that's a misperception on my part...
I also thought of Bernie Taupin's line from "Texas Love Song", when he talks of hearts
filled with national pride and kids still respecting the President's name.
One last thing - the reason I was over at my in-laws house was because my
father-in-law died yesterday. So I'll be heading out of town Wednesday(the funeral
will be in Illinois) and am not sure what if any kind of e-mail access I'll have. So
if you send me a message and I don't respond, don't think me snooty, I'll get back in
a week or so...
Oops, one MORE last thing: Covers Volume 18 shipments are going out today, I'll put
together my "review" and contest when I return.
