November 8, 2002 St.Godfrey of AmeinsBishop Confessor also known as Geoffrey,GottfriedLIFE: Godfrey was born of prominent French parents,near Soissons,in c.1066.At the age of 5 Godfrey was placed in the monastery of St Quentin,under the care of the holy Abbot Godfrey,who was his godfather. The saint in his youth spent much of his time ,day &night in prayer.At the age of twenty five he was ordained priest,and soon afterwards was choosen Abbot of Nogent ,in Champagne.He rebuilt the Abbey and brought the religious spirit to flourish. In 1103,much against his will he was consecrated Bishop of Amiens.He entered the city bare foot,garbed as a penitent,and lived in the Bishop`s palace like a monk. He was remarkable for his meekness &patience,and for his charity towards the poor.Daily he fed thirteeen poor people at his own table in honour of Christ &twelve Apostles.He frequently visited the hospital of the lepers,attending to their needs & comforting them.
