The answers to the questions on the JQuery mailing lists are not sent by the
JQuery mailing list owners, so why should they tell us that our questions
won't be answered?
If the lists are not "maintained", it means that they will be probably
spammed hard, but as I said, many list members would prefer reading a
spammed mailing list than an inaccessible forum.
(Because a forum will be always much less accessible for a screen reader
used by a blind computer user than a mailing list.)

Hi Octavian,
I'm just a user, not associated with the Jquery guys, so maybe they
have a better answer, but they described the problem in full on the
web link he gave out earlier.
Part of the problem is that it is completely unmanageable for them -
there are 21,000 users on the list.
JQuery guys:
Perhaps an autoresponder that states that the post will not be
answered due to shutdown, a brief description of why, and a pointer to
the forum?

It is a good idea to create a forum. But it is not a good idea to close

Spammed or not, some of the users might prefer to continue to use the
mailing lists, and not the forum, which is hard accessible for some
users.
If the lists will get too much spam, and the users don't use an email
provider that takes care of that spam from their mailboxes, any user is
free
to unsubscribe from the lists and use only the forum.
But maybe some of the users might want to use them both, or only the
mailing
lists, so why killing the mailing lists?

Subject: [jquery-ui] jQuery is Moving to a Forum
Hello All -
After much deliberation the jQuery team has decided to close down the
Google Groups that we've been using for project discussion and move to
a unified forum instead.
The new forum can be found here:
http://forum.jquery.com/
More information about our decision to move can be found here:
http://jquery14.com/day-07/new-jquery-forum
If you have any questions concerning the move please feel free to post
them in the new meta discussion forum here:
http://forum.jquery.com/about-the-jquery-forum
Thanks for your continued support and here's to future community
discussions!
