I won't login to a forum ever day whereas I will read these emails and

available...
Better solutions are readily available. If the owners and masters of
the list are willing to delegate some authority. There are plenty of
list solutions out there, that accommodate upwards of 20,000 members.
Other mailing list solutions exist. This is known, and beside the point.
As
Karl mentioned here
http://groups.google.com/group/jquery-en/msg/ea62a629b6c8200d
the move to a forum was in the works for years, not so much because of the
particular provider we had, but because so many more people, especially
new
users, could benefit so much more from a forum.
I just responded on a similar thread and went through some of the
advantages
I see in a forum:
http://groups.google.com/group/jquery-en/msg/5c1f435be0e3aeab
I don't mean to start a debate. Each is a different model with different
tools and technologies, and each has pros and cons. I was simply
responding
to a request to detail some advantages we/I see in a web forum over a
mailing list.
- Richard
Many of those advantages are advantages only for the mailing list admins and
not for the users, and the disadvantages are too big for some users.
But as I said, it is normal for everyone to decide to make his/her life as
easy as possible, and it is normal that the mailing lists admins took this
decision, but please don't kill the mailing lists, because even if they
won't be administered anymore and if they will be hardly spammed, they are a
much better medium than a forum.
A Mercedes is better than an Opel, but if I would provide you a Mercedes
with only one door, I don't think you'll like it, although I can show more
advantages for it. :-)
Thanks.
