You're right....I was confused. Mine was a URL in an
email. There was definitely a "hidden" redirect attached to
the end of the URL which was not visible in the status
line but was visible upon source examination.
There must be a whole class of these things based
on hiding portions of the URL. Sorry for the false sighting :).
