History Lesson Follows:

When we were a startup, MCNC let us meet there a couple of times for free before they came to their senses and asked for fees. At the time their price seemed a bit steep and included security which we didn't really think we needed. (I think it was more for them than us). But anyway, in the end we chose MCNC as our home because it was the nicest facility, they could project slides and computer displays, and we had the money.

I'm not sure who to talk to, I worked with a nice lady there, I've forgotten her name, it's been a while, 1997? (Yikes!)

Mea Maxima Culpa!! I was confusing the GSK auditorium

Cornwallis.

MCNC was chosen as a vendor neutral site based on the charter of the group
(before my time on the board).

So ignore my original recommendation (made as a member and not someone on
the board). Apparently the board has more choices come up this morning and
they will share that with the members.

Choice of a venue may or may not affect the attendance!! The members can
provide feedback and help the board choose.

I think the great character of TriJUG owes much to the ample and gracious meeting facility that we have been using, for at least these last five years during which I have attended. It is too bad that MCNC wants such a sudden and great increase. Does anybody know what is behind this pronouncement from MCNC? Did we fail to leave some pizza? Does anybody know anybody in a position of authority in MCNC that we can talk to?

About the Dreyfus Auditorium at RTI, if I recall correctly RTI gives
the space to TriLUG for free. I do not agree with Conrad, however,
that it is big enough. I would guess that it seats 40-60. TriLUG is
now overflowing it with each meeting. I believe we would overflow it
in the best-attended 1/3 of our meetings.

As I recall our finances, we have been paying $265 each month to rent
the meeting facilities at MCNC (including the projector), and we could
easily keep this up. That amount is not a problem.

Has anyone considered the Golden Coral meeting room on US 70

I would not recommend it. In my experience with Golden Coral meeting rooms, they sometimes play background music for the other patrons and don't know how to turn it off in your area. They expect/hope that each attendee will buy a meal or something. They are probably not accustomed to providing a projector for PowerPoint presentations. Sometimes their staff suddenly starts singing "happy birthday" to somebody right on the other side of the folding partition.
