Do you mean changes to OpenJUMP for research purposes, but that might not be

I don't have a problem with this. In fact, I think it would be good to have
a "development" release in which we can test changes before they are pushed
in the CVS for the public release.

I think we should have a very good reason not to use SourceForge. It is a
system most, if not all, of the OpenJUMP developers are familiar with and
its proven to be very reliable.

This was a very generous offer of Erwan. I know that a legal entity for
OpenJUMP will bring many advantages, but it will also bring added
responsibilites. I must honestly say I don't think our community has a very
formal structure or set of rules for governance and decision making. I have
tried to put a fairly simple structure for this into place in the past with
the development committee. I don't think this was very sucessful. I only
mention this now because I think these elements of a community become much
more important when a legal entity is formed.
We can also consider rolling the JPP into the umbrella non-profit run by the
Free Software Foundation. This will give us many of the perks of a
non-profit without all of the responsibilities.

These are excellent comments. I would like to see the JPP remain as what it
began as, and organization dedicated to collaborative development of
OpenJUMP and related software. (This includes Vivid's JUMP and the other
JUMP brands.) However, you have mentioned that your involvement with
OpenJUMP may be limited in time and scope because of other commitments. This
worries me somewhat, becuase I know you do a majority of the "housecleaning"
and administrative tasks on OpenJUMP. I plan on remaining active in OpenJUMP
for a long time, but I do not have the luxury of working on OpenJUMP while
at my job and my free time is limited.
I think we will have to see more involvement from other community members if
OpenJUMP is to remain healthy. I'd like to see more developers working to
integrate changes and improvments from other "JUMP" brands into OpenJUMP. I
believe this can be done rather painlessly if simple procedures are put into
place and followed.
That being said, I will continue to work as an administrator of the JPP, and
will try to care for the "housecleaning" tasks in your eventual abscence. I
just don't think I will be able to keep up with the changes as good as you
have. I know I will fall behind, especially with all of the work being done
on Kosmo and SkyJUMP.

P.S. - I think we should also have some conversations about how this legal
entity will be governed, how it will make decisions, and what authority it
will be given over things like the website and the CVS. I welcome the
opportunity to get other people involved in these facets of the project, but
I'd like to know who they are and what there objectives are before we hand
over the keys.

a) Implementing an abstract database layer based on H2 database
(http://www.h2database.com/). This will solve some memory problems and
give an abstract interface (e.g. shp or gml driver independent) for
plugin development.
b) They plan to implement map algebra functionality for raster data
(images). The raster functionalities will be based on ImageJ
(http://www.cooa.unh.edu/tutorial.jsp) and deegree libraries
(http://deegree.sourceforge.net/)
