I posted a message to the main OSGeo mailing list to inquire about the possibility of having the OSGeo host our OpenJUMP wiki. (I made this inquiry at Stefan's request.) In order to have the OSGeo host our wiki we would have to do the following:
- Find someone at the OSGeo with the appropriate level of access that was willing to do the system administration tasks needed to set-up and maintain the wiki. (I do not have this level of access.) - Submit a motion to the System Administration Committee requesting the set-up of the wiki, which will need to be approved by the OSGeo board after a brief review period. In my modest opinion, this is a fair amount of work for something as simple as a wiki. However, I believe it is a worthwhile step if OpenJUMP plans on becoming an OSGeo project in the near future. If this is the case, we can apply for "incubator status", which means that OpenJUMP is in the process of becoming an OSGeo project. We also had an offer for wiki hosting from Dr. Dupre of the Ecos Institute. In summary, here are the wiki hosting options available to us: - Go through the administrative hurdles to apply for wiki hosting by the OSGeo. - Apply as for "incubator" status, and seek wiki hosting from OSGeo as part of this process. - Accept the offer of Wiki hosting by Dr. Dupre from the Ecos Institute. - Use the wiki service offered at SourceForge. - Leave things as they are currently. Another option I am willing to consider is hosting the wiki at my web domain or one of the web domains used by one of our other corporate members. We could probably set up the same wiki software Jon is using for us currently. The offer from Dr. Dupre is a serious one, I think. They are a NGO with experience in open source Linux development. Waiting for your comments.
