Wait a minute. What we did here in America was to
streamline, revise and improve the English language. We now have
English2.0.

I can't really say much about Scotsmen because what
little we know about my father's side of our family suggest that
we may have been Scots with about an equal part of French. We
have a term, here, which I don't know if you use there but the
word is Scots-Irish. My grandmother on my father's side just,
one day, changed the spelling of McCormick to the way the Irish
spell it from the way it was spelled which was a Scottish
spelling.
I believe along the lines of a news paper editor in
Oklahoma who says,
"Some people spend thousands of Dollars to prove that
one of their ancestors came over on the Mayflower when they
should spend thousands of Dollars trying to prove otherwise."
I had an aunt who was really in to genealogy and who was
married to my father's brother. She went to Scotland, once, and
said that she saw men all over there who looked like Uncle
Louis, very tall and flaming red hair.
Our branch, however, is average hight with brown hair
so I guess that's the French and tiny bit of native American.
My dad says you just hit an opaque wall when you try to
trace us back so I bet if we were Scots, we probably were
Travelers or God knows what.
For some reason, we had a number of McCormicks in
railroads and the telephone company. My Uncle Louis was a
machinist in Tulsa all his life so I guess we like to make
things work.
So much for all that. I'm glad your friends are enjoying
Northern England because it sounds like a really nice place and
right now, I'd take your weather any day. I hope your friends
don't mind teaching you English2.0 as it is something we all
perfected and hope to spread all over the globe.;-)
Take care. Our sizzling ?Summer is supposed to break
this weekend. Thank goodness!
