The winmail.dat files are a special case. Here's a description of
them:

   What is a winmail.dat file?

If Microsoft Outlook is badly configured it sends attachments
as a file called "winmail.dat" or "ATT0001.dat". This is a
binary file and unusable with any other mail program except
   MS Outlook.

There might be some app for an android device that can open these,
but I'd surprised. [just tell your correspondent that their
m$outlook needs a configuration fix -- they can go figure it out.]
