The winmail.dat files are a special case. Here's a description of them: What is a winmail.dat file?
If Microsoft Outlook is badly configured it sends attachments as a file called "winmail.dat" or "ATT0001.dat". This is a binary file and unusable with any other mail program except MS Outlook. There might be some app for an android device that can open these, but I'd surprised. [just tell your correspondent that their m$outlook needs a configuration fix -- they can go figure it out.] ------------ Original Message ------------ > Date: Thursday, March 12, 2015 09:26:51 -0700 > From: Gearshift159 <[email protected]> > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [k-9-mail] K-9 ...Opening Attachments; Can't > > When I tap open attachments, winmail.dat opens displaying OPEN or > SAVE.
