Actually, using "app passwords" is better than using your regular
login credentials from a mobile device. If you are using app
passwords with google I assume you have 2-factor authentication set
up on your google account(s), which is good, for reasons unrelated
to K-9 and mobile devices.
Minimally, you should have a pattern or password screen lock. With
android 5.0.2 (maybe earlier) you can encrypt the device (generally
under the device "security" options). That makes it harder for
someone who has the device, but not the password, to get to stored
content.
Regarding deleting messages -- in general, the option(s) that you
need to look at for keeping things like deletions in sync are:
- [account] settings
- fetching mail
- sync server deletions
& - when i delete a message [mark as deleted on server - yes/no]
& - erase deleted messages on server [imap expunge]
These are valid imap options. I'm not positive what is available for
pop or exchange, but those are the concepts.
