In the portrait orientation folder view (email list) on a Android phone, you have a toolbar at the bottom of the screen. The first icon from the left is a magnifying glass. The second from the left is the arrows in a circle. That is the refresh (or sync button).

It is also second from the left icon from the left in the top toolbar in the split view on a tablet. That is the view with individual mail list on the left and mail contents on the right.

Following image shows the same view on a phone. You should see the same view as your phone. If you really don't have that circle arrow icon in your toolbar, then I'm stumped.

    If IMAP try this:

    Go to the trash folder. Select a couple of messages to test. That

    with the two arrows in a circle.  That should sync the folder with the
    server.  Now you should be able to move the messages back to the inbox
