--- Comment #11 from [email protected] --- I was able to fix the issue and it was not what I would have ever guessed. Turns out it was something to do with the mouse and USB even though the problem persisted with a reboot. Reason, I guess, is that the mouse is plugged into a KVM and it must stay powered and enumerated even when the PC is powered off. Anyway. power cycling the KVM switch solved the problem for me.
