The thing that bothered me the most is that (for historical reasons) I
did not want to change component numbering.  I did not find a "cut"
and paste, only a "copy" and paste.  You lose all of your reference
designators when you copy components.

When I needed to split a sheet, I actually created a blank sheet in
Kicad, then exited Kicad, and copied a preexisting sheet over the new
blank sheet in the file system, then back to Kicad to delete some
components from the first sheet and other components from the other
sheet.

It's not actually that bad, but it does feel unfinished (or "rough")
and explaining that process to somebody who doesn't even (yet) know
that every sheet except the top one has to be "instantiated" on
another sheet somewhere seems difficult.
