:D
Good point/s.
One more(set of) question(/s), if I may.
What organization or affiliations serve as the backbone of PhOSSIL?
Is it truly a separate entity?
Is it possible for people who want to pitch-in some form of help
(give source code, provide source code reviews)
but are not physically available for meetings be able to join the PhOSSIL
movement?
I have not yet contacted PLUG and other LUGs regarding this. "PhOSSIL"
might be misleading because of "Philippines" and might connote all
Filipinos. Yes in the long term, PhOSSIL aims to cater to every pinoy
however, the resources are not there yet, including the manpower.
Immediate aim of PhOSSIL is to let local FOSS/LUG who are
Mindanao-based to be the target niche for now. Primary reason is we
are the ones always left behind, dont you think? If PhOSSIL is will be
able to provide the path to be at par with the rest of the FOSS
programs in the country, so be it.
However, for now. Advisory Committee, and volunteers will be immediate
locality first. Mindanao and Visayas mostly. Reason one is that a lot
of work will be needed and the closer we are with each other, the
easier it is for us to convene. And the fact is that the org is going
to be a laboratory and a community, the more we need geographical
closeness.
And last reason I think is that our great minds in IT are here
however, they were obscured partly due to responsibilities, and the
fact that the others up north grabbed the limelight away from those in
the south. Plus the grants and projects that may have been needed
badly by us here in Mindanao for the furtherance of FOSS.
