Deputy PM stresses scientists' training in Vietnam-Russia co-operation

Vietnam wishes to boost scientific co-operation with Russia, particularly
in personnel training, Deputy Prime Minister Pham
Gia Khiem told visiting Russian vice minister of industry, Science and
Technology V A Kniazhev in Hanoi on November 6.
The Deputy PM also praised the activities carried out by the two countries'
scientific and technical co-operation committee,
particularly in the transfer of studies on new materials, bio-technology,
physio-technology, and mechanical engineering to
Vietnam.
V A Kniazhev, who is also chairman of the Russian section to the
Russia-Vietnam Committee on Scientific and Technical
Co-operation, informed the Deputy PM of the implementation of projects on
scientific and technical co-operation between the
two countries and the plan for bilateral co-operation in this field in the
2000-2003 period.
He also expressed his wishes for further co-operation with Vietnam in
science and technology. (VNA)
Vietnamese, Indian strengthen co-operation
Foreign Minister Nguyen Dy Nien held talks in Hanoi on November 6, with his
Indian counterpart, Jaswant Singh,
ministers to discuss orientations and measures to boost the two countries'
co-operation as well as regional and international
issues of mutual concern.
FM Nguyen Dy Nien expressed his pleasure at the achievements recorded by
the Indian people over more than a half decade
and appreciation for India's efforts in strengthening relations with other
countries in the region, its positive contributions to
consolidating and raising the Non-Aligned Movement's role, boosting
South-South co-operation and co-ordinating with
developing countries at international forums.
FM Jaswant Singh noted with pleasure at witnessing Vietnam's achievements
in implementing the national renovation
process and the open-door foreign policy of multilateralisation and
diversification of relations, and actively integrating into
the region and the world.
The two ministers were pleased at the fine development in the friendship
and comprehensive co-operation between the two
countries in the recent past, particularly after the India visit by
President Tran Duc Luong in December, 1999. They said the
visit brought the two countries' relations to a new height of development
and contributed to strengthening mutual
understanding and trust between Vietnam and India.
The two sides agreed upon orientations and measures to boost co-operation
qualitatively and quantatively. They also
exchanged views on measures to further strengthen co-operation between the
two foreign ministries.
Discussing regional and international issues, the two sides affirmed to
strengthen collaboration of activities within the
regional and international forums such as the Non-Aligned Movement, the
South-South co-operation, the ASEAN Post
Ministerial Conference (PMC), the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), and others,
thus contributing to peace, stability and
development in the Asian-Pacific region and the world.
In capacity as the President of Association of the Southeast Asian Nations
(ASEAN), Vietnam welcomed India's policy to
boost co-operation with ASEAN bilaterally and within the India-ASEAN
dialogue relations and the South Asian Association
for Regional co-operation (SAARC) and ASEAN. Vietnam reiterated its support
to India's desire to join the United Nations
Security Council and the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC).
The two sides also agreed that the success of FM Singh's visit would make
an important contribution to further
strengthening bilateral relations for the interest of both countries and
for peace, stability, co-operation and development in the
region and the world.
FM Jaswant Singh invited FM Nguyen Dy Nien to visit India. FM Nien accepted
the invitation with pleasure.
FM Nguyen Dy Nien and FM Jaswant Singh co-chaired the 10th session of the
Vietnam-India Inter-Governmental
Commission for Economic, Cultural, and Scientific and Technological
co-operation.
In the evening, Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh and Indian distinguished
guests were entertained by FM Nien at the
Government Guest House. (VNA)
Spirit of Russian Socialist Revolution to live for ever
The spirit of the Russian October Socialist Revolution will live for ever
among people in the world who love peace,
independence, equality and advancement, said the Chairman of the Ho Chi
Minh City branch of the Vietnam-Russia
Friendship Association, Hoang Huu Nghia, at a get-together to celebrate the
83rd anniversary of the revolution held in Ho
Chi Minh City on November 6.
Prominent among the participants were Russian consul general in Ho Chi Minh
City, Yuri Grashchenkov, municipal deputy
mayor Le Minh Nhut, municipal Fatherland Front Committee chairman, Tran
Thanh Long, chairman of the municipal branch
of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations Duong Dinh Ba and
representatives from Belarus and Ukraine consulate
generals in the city.
Hoang Huu Nghia and Yuri Grashchenkov also stressed the historic
significance of the revolution to progressive peoples in
the world. They said that the Vietnamese, Russian and people in other
countries of the former Soviet Union have overcome
difficulties to further develop the traditional friendship and solidarity
