The deadly explosion happened just outside a busy shopping centre Israeli warplanes have attacked Palestinian security and government offices in the West Bank in an apparent response to a suicide bomb attack earlier on Friday in the Israeli town of Netanya. For the first time in the latest conflict, the Israelis are reported to have used F16 aircraft to attack Palestinian targets. The governor's office, police headquarters and a prison, were hit in Nablus, causing substantial damage. At least five Palestinian were killed in the Israeli air strikes, and more than 20 injured. Israeli tanks also shelled a Palestinian security post in Ramallah. Hours earlier, six Israelis and a suicide bomber were killed, and more than 40 injured, in a powerful explosion outside a crowded shopping mall in Netanya. As the violence escalated, a Jewish settler was shot dead and two others were injured when the car they were travelling in came under fire near Ramallah. Palestinian radio has reported that five children were wounded when Israeli soldiers fired on them as they played football near an Israeli guard post in the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian militant group, Hamas, says it carried out the attack in Netanya, and has suggested that more will follow. Security officials prevented the bomber from entering the shopping centre in Netanya. They became suspicious because he was wearing a thick blue jacket on a hot, sunny day - so instead, the bomber set off the explosives there and then. Israeli media say he was a 20-year-old Palestinian man from the West Bank town of Tulkarm, just a few kilometres from Netanya. The bomb attack comes after a weeK of escalation in the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. Hamas spokesman Mahmoud Al-Zahaar told the BBC that the deaths of the Israeli citizens was "justified by the Koran and justified by international law". When asked if Hamas would carry out more attacks he said: "We are expecting more aggression from the Israeli side and more resistance from the Palestinian side". Two days ago the Israelis announced they were establishing outposts just within Palestinian-controlled parts of Gaza. SPAM TO FOLLOW Your use of Yahoo!
