In the overall scheme of things, the incident doesn�t seem to merit more
attention than the screaming headlines in England�s tabloid press. After
all, with the world anxiously awaiting the next terrorist shoe to drop on
civilization, why make a big deal over �private� comments made recently by
the French Ambassador to St. James Court at a private dinner party in
London. In between drinks and canap�s, Ambassador Daniel Bernard, a close
confidant of French President Chiraq, was overheard saying: �Why should we
be in danger of World War III because of these people?� No, the senior
diplomat who previously served his country with distinction at the United
Nations was not talking about Sudan, Iraq, North Korea, or other nations
harboring international terrorists. No, as he emphasized five times, he was
referring to �that shitty little country, Israel.�
Almost as outrageous as the slur was the reaction, or more accurately, lack
thereof. Absent was the stiff protest from Whitehall to the Quai D�orsay.
Neither PM Tony Blair nor FM Robin Cook demanded an apology. They need not
have worried--none was forthcoming. The French Embassy merely released the
following statement: �The Ambassador regarded it as a private dinner with
friends. He was surprised to have his remarks reported in this way.�
Actually, no one should be surprised by Bernard�s expletives. It only
reflects the fact that too many of Europe�s elite have come to accept and
even embrace antisemitism. We one can only imagine the outpouring of
righteous indignation from the international community if such a slur had
been launched against any Islamic state during the holy month of Ramadan.
But this Hanukah, Jews of Europe and beyond know full well that they could
expect no words of solidarity and support.
For the sobering truth is that a generation after the Nazi Holocaust, the
new Europe is ready to stand in silent tribute for dead Jews, but has no
time for the living. This blas� attitude is manifested in the stinging
failure of governments to deal forcefully with the largest onslaught
against European synagogues and Jewish schools since the 1938
Kristallnacht. Most of the two hundred hate crimes were linked to the
current Intifada in the Holy Land. Long before the horrors of 9/11, over
one hundred of those attacks were launched against French Jewry, while
authorities refused and still refuse to deal with the fact that many of
these outrages were inspired by Iranian and Libyan-backed extremist Moslem
clerics, whose anti-Jewish and anti-American diatribes continue to this
day, unabated.
Nowhere was this ill will of apathy and loathing more pronounced that at
the recent United Nations Conference Against Racism, which despite its
lofty title quickly degenerated into an anti-Israel and anti-American
hatefest. The overwhelming majority of the 3,900 NGOs (non-governmental
organizations), many of them European, voted for or stood by silently as
they approved a document calling for the re-instituting of the infamous
1975 UN resolution equating Zionism with racism. Nor were our fellow
European human rights activists much help as me and the other Jewish
delegates in attendance were subjected to a crescendo of taunts and
physical threats culminating in a protest march of 17,000 South African
Moslems holding aloft banners proclaiming: �Hitler should have finished the
job.�
Only the United States, itself subject to withering criticism by the
international gathering, had the guts to walk out from the conclave that
mainlined hate into the bloodstream of the world body charged with
protecting the Universal Rights of Man. Forty eight hours later, the hatred
which sank Durban propelled Al Qaeda�s suicide onslaught against America.
Against this backdrop, it should come as no surprise that the Arab world
would embrace anti-Jewish racism with a vengeance not seen since the heyday
of Nazi Germany.
Witness a new series produced by state-run Abu Dhabi Television, which
aired on primetime during the month of Ramadan. Entitled �Plots of Terror,�
this family fare features Kuwait�s most beloved comedic actor as Ariel
Sharon. The Israeli Prime Minister is portrayed as a latter day vampire who
mass produces and markets �Dracu-Cola� from the blood of Arabs, the younger
the better. The climax of the first installment shows �Sharon� tossing
babies into a bonfire, then reflecting on the birthday present of twenty
Arab children given to him by the late Prime Minister Menahem Begin: ��we
drew their blood and drank it. It was one of my best nights��
Not to be outdone by this 21st century update of the Medieval Christian
Blood Libel, Saudi Arabian Television plans to air a 30-part miniseries,
Horseman Without a Name, based on The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, a
debunked Tsarist canard invoked by every Jew-hater of the 20th century.
And the cavalcade of officially-sanctioned Jew hatred goes far beyond
ratings-hungry television executives. The horrific charge of blood libel-
i.e. Jews ritually murdering gentile children for the Passover matzo-is the
theme of a book authored by Syria�s Defense Minister, Mustafa Talas, soon
to be made into a motion picture which, in the words of the Egyptian
producer, will be �the Arab world�s answer to Schindler�s List.� Far from
being isolated for his hate mongering, Talas was recently awarded a
doctorate in history by the prestigious Sorbonne. Not to be outdone, Talas�
new boss, Syrian President Bashir Assad, used the occasion of Pope John
Paul II�s historic visit to Damascus to accuse the Jewish people of
murdering Jesus and plotting against Mohammed. Sadly, the normally
outspoken pontiff stood by silently.
There are many historic reasons for the ambivalence of Europeans to
antisemitism. But if they think for a moment that tacit encouragement of
antisemitism in the Moslem world will spare the West any further agony and
anguish from Al Qaeda-style hate, they are dead wrong. Not when the
faithful answered Amen to an Imam�s sermon in Hamburg, Germany, after 9/11,
which declared: �God, we implore You, to destroy the United States of
America!� And anti-Jewish credentials won�t save European elites from the
vision of the Turkish-based extremist group IGMG. The organization, which
is linked to an outlawed extremist Turkish party, claims to have 500
branches in Germany and over 200 in France, Scandinavia, Switzerland,
Austria and Belgium, pursues its dream of erecting an Islamic State in
Europe, with the ��promise that we will� fight for the triumph of the
Islamic revolution�[and] will not accept outside of the Koran any system of
government.�
A generation ago, Europe�s early appeasement of Adolph Hitler led to World
War II and the Nazi Holocaust. Ambassador Bernard and others would do well
to re-learn a basic fact�Jews are often the first victims, never the last.
The leaders of the European Union should take their lead from President
George Bush, �there are no good or bad terrorism,� and remember that hate,
the source of all terrorism, must be fought regardless of its target. If
Europe fails to, then we will all soon be invoking Santayana�s prophetic
warning: �those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it�.

03) L.A. Jewish militants indicted for roles in alleged bomb plot

LOS ANGELES -- A federal grand jury here has indicted two members of the
Jewish Defense League for allegedly plotting to bomb a Southern California
mosque and a U.S. congressman�s office. If convicted, the militant group�s
chairman, Irv Rubin, and a follower, Earl Krugel, could face life in
prison.
Rubin and Krugel are being held in solitary confinement at a Los Angeles
detention center.
According to federal officials, the men told a JDL member who became a
government informant that they believed "Arabs need a wake-up call," and
that the JDL needs to let people know they are "alive in a militant way."
Both men, who are scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 22 in a U.S. District
Court, maintain their innocence.
Lawyers for Rubin, 56, and Krugel, 59, the group�s West Coast coordinator,
described the charges as a hysterical reaction to the Sept. 11 attacks �
and that the two had been entrapped by an FBI informant.
The 24-page indictment charges that Rubin and Krugel recruited a person,
described as someone who joined the JDL in his teens, to bomb the King Fahd
Mosque in Culver City, Calif., and the field office of Rep. Darrell Issa
(R-Calif.).
Issa is an Arab American of Lebanese descent who is one of the more vocal
congressional critics of Israel.
A third potential target was the Muslim Public Affairs Council, which is
headquartered in a high-rise building in midtown Los Angeles, but Rubin
allegedly struck this target from the list.
During the course of a dozen meetings of the three alleged plotters between
October and December, the unidentified informant contacted the FBI and
agreed to wear a concealed tape recorder during future sessions.
Rubin and Krugel were arrested on Dec. 11, after the informant delivered
five pounds of explosive powder to Krugel�s garage, according to the
indictment.
In separate phone interviews, defense lawyers for the two men attacked the
government�s charges.
The second count, which accuses Rubin of conspiracy to use a weapon of mass
destruction against a U.S. government office, is "outrageous," Peter
Morris, who represents Rubin. "They�re trying to raise this to the level of
the Sept. 11 attacks."
Mark Werksman, Krugel�s lawyer, said that "this case was initiated by,
prodded along and overseen at every stage by an FBI informant. The
informant provoked discussion about things that Krugel and Rubin would
never have done on their own."
Jewish organizations, including the local Jewish federation, the Anti-
Defamation League and the Simon Wiesenthal Center, have expressed their
horror at the alleged plot.
Steve Goldberg, a friend and one-time lawyer of Rubin, criticized
mainstream Jewish organizations, which he says have already "tried and
convicted" the two men "without a fair hearing."
Rubin was named national chairman of the militant JDL in 1985 by its
founder, Rabbi Meir Kahane.
Since then, by his own count, Rubin has been arrested 40 times and has been
investigated for murder and attempted murder.
He has never been convicted of a felony.

04) The Truth Regarding the Government's Case Against Irv Rubin and Earl
Krugel

The U.S. government has charged Irv Rubin and Earl Krugel with conspiring
to bomb a mosque in Culver City and Congressman Darrell Issa's office. We
believe that these charges are false and that both of these men will be
acquitted once a full and fair airing of the facts is presented in a court
of law.
Here is the truth about this case: Irv (age 56) and Earl (age 59) have
spent their lives fighting anti-Semitism, not committing terrorist acts.
Never before have either of these dedicated Jewish activists been tried or
convicted of any violent activity. What happened here is that in the wake
of the tragic events of September 11, the FBI used the services of a
"snitch" with an admitted violent background to set up Irv and Earl. The
snitch tried to induce Irv and Earl to participate in these bomb plots. In
fact, it was the government snitch who delivered bomb-making material to
Earl's home just hours before the government raid that led to the arrests.
Importantly, no bombs were ever constructed and nobody was hurt.
If convicted of the current charges, Irv and Earl are facing a minimum of
35 years in federal prison with no possibility of parole. Given their ages,
this means that if they are convicted, Irv and Earl will spend the rest of
their lives in federal prison.
For obvious reasons, the government will use the full might of its
limitless resources to convict and severely punish these good men.
Unfortunately, Irv and Earl do not have funds to pay the costs of their

05) How To Support JDL Members Wrong Accused

Irv Rubin's family has been allowed to see him since just before New Year's
Eve. Visits are limited to 2-3 times per week, for one hour each time. Irv
finally got his reading glasses on Dec. 31, just before a family visit. He
is allowed to call his family 1-2 times per week. His wife sent him a mail
subscription to the L.A. Times ($64 for one month) but since he is in
"isolation," the prison will not let him have the newspaper. Earl's family
has also experienced problems, such as extended periods of waiting at the
facility, with his detention.
As of this date, charges have not been filed, although lawyers for the two
JDL members say they have been told that indictments will be handed down
tomorrow.
Irv and Earl appreciate the cards and letters that people have sent them.
It is very lonely for them as they are being held in solitary confinement.
They are housed separately in small cells and are allowed only an hour in a

Jewish Defense League Chairman Irv Rubin and his close friend and JDL
member Earl Krugel have been arrested for a crime they did not commit. JDL
is a law-abiding, albeit activist, organization; we are the last people to
be involved in any attempt to harm innocent people. Please remember that
the media have presented only one side of the story. We believe our members
are being persecuted by the U.S. government. They have been denied bail,
and as of this date charges have not even been filed!
Irv's wife and children have not been allowed to see him since his arrest
almost two weeks ago. They literally have been given the runaround in their
attempts to see him. Even though money has been sent to him by his family,
prison officials have not put the funds into his account in order for him
to call home. His wife last spoke to him on Dec. 15! His attorneys had to
intercede in order for him to get a toothbrush. He has been denied reading
glasses.
The Jewish Defense League stands firmly in support of our brothers'

07) "'Anarchists,' Jewish Fascists Join Forces

The Barricada Collective, a self-proclaimed "revolutionary anarchist"
organization, has apparently been funneling information to the Jewish
Defense League (JDL), a group whose leader was recently indicted, along
with another JDL member, for plotting to bomb a mosque in Culver City,
California.
According to the JDL's Web site, "A group called the Barricada Collective
will be joining JDL in the protest against Hale, and they have provided
specific details on the counter event." The site went on to name the
assembly point that would be used by "anarchists" organized by the
Barricada Collective.
The site does not make clear whether the JDL and the "anarchists" would
march to the library together, although that certainly seems to be the
logical intent.
The Baltimore Independent Media Center, the site providing "anarchist"
coverage of the event, includes a link to the Jewish Defense League in its
feature article, without further commentary.
Although the One People's Project has criticized the JDL in the past, the
flier they produced for today's event ("Hatemongers Amongst Us") doesn't
picture any of their members or leaders, nor does it even acknowledge their
expected presence.
None of these "anarchist" organizations seem particularly concerned that,
in a massacre eclipsing Benjamin Smith�s 1998 shooting spree, a JDL member
machine-gunned 29 Arabs praying in a West Bank mosque in 1994.
Nor does the JDL's official response apparently trouble them: "We feel that
Goldstein took a preventative measure against yet another Arab attack. We
understand his motivation, his grief and his actions. We are not ashamed to
say that Goldstein was a charter member of the Jewish Defense League. We
quote without comment the rabbi who conducted the services at Goldstein's
funeral, "A million Arabs are not worth one Jewish fingernail."
Anarchism? I call it cowardice, and opportunism at its worst--and
uselessness.

08) [Response to the False Charges Involving the JDL]

Barricada has recently been accused through many public forums of having
working ties to the Jewish Defense League (JDL). Specifically, an article
written by an anonymous accuser states that Barricada "has been funneling
information to the JDL."
This article is written in a direct response to these accusations, to clear
up any misconceptions and dispel lies and rumors.
Barricada has never had any ties, unofficial or official, to the Jewish
Defense League. All our members agree that the JDL is a dangerous and
fascist organization. The article which accuses us of having funneled
information to them cites as evidence a posting on the JDL webpage,
referencing the protest against the World Church of the Creator in
Connecticut last March, which states that "A group called the Barricada
Collective will be joining JDL in the protest against Hale, and they have
provided specific details on the counter event."
The information which follows is a verbatim copy of a call to action which
was issued by the Barricada Collective and which was made very public via
the internet (posted on every Indymedia site, mailed to a-infos, etc.) This
is the extent of the alleged "collaboration" between us and the JDL -
apparently we are to blame for the JDL's ability to read! As with most
groups who are insignificant and tiny in numbers, the JDL enjoys making
itself out to be the most prominent group at any event it attends.
However, Barricada has no knowledge of the JDL organizing any kind of
protest against the WCOTC in either Wallingford, Connecticut or in York,
Pennsylvania, and even their own website makes no mention of any kind of
involvement in York. To the best of our knowledge, there were no JDL
members present at either of the anti-WCOTC protests last year in
Connecticut, and only two members present in York on Saturday, January
12th.
These two were identified by the fliers they were handing out, and it was
suggested by one Barricada member that they "should go over to the other
side" of the police line, where the neo-nazis were located, though we all
felt that now was neither the time nor place to deal with them, and agreed
our energies should be focused on the white supremacists waving huge
swastikas and chanting "seig heil."
To be absolutely clear, the Barricada Collective does not support the
ideology, goals, or politics of the JDL in any way. There was no
collaboration between us and them in any way, shape, or form. We did not
funnel information to them, we simply made information available publicly,
which they re-posted to their own website.
We certainly did not collaborate tactically with them on the ground in
York, and the two identified JDL members were nowhere to be seen as anti-
racists and York residents quite literally chased the WCOTC, National
Alliance, Eastern Hammerskins, National Socialist Movement, and other neo-
nazis out of town.
In direct contrast to the JDL, we support the struggle of the Palestinian
people against oppression by the Israeli state. As revolutionary
anarchists, however, we do not support the creation of a Palestinian state,
as we feel it would nullify all the gains the people could win from their
struggle. We are as opposed to Zionism as we are to all forms of racism and
oppression.
By far the most inspiring and productive of all the events that transpired
in York on the 12th, was the militant and multiracial anti-racist
violence/near-rioting wrought by the local youth (mostly black and latino)
and long-time anti-racist and anarchist activists. York has the potential
to be a major turning point in the anti-racist struggle as it represents
the first time in many years, if not decades, that locals joined in violent
confrontations with neo-nazis. It was only through their participation that
the neo-nazis were so decisively crushed, and forced to flee with their
tail between their legs (not to mention a lot less car windows, several
broken bones, and countless bruises).
This is what our post-York dialogue should be focusing on.
We absolutely cannot allow a few individuals with a vested interest in
disrupting anti-racist organizing to cheapen our victory or redirect our
attention from these issues. We should be discussing how to build on the
bonds that were made that day, how they can be replicated, and how to
continue the cooperation that was happening on the street, not engaging in
ridiculous rumor-mongering against our own.
With all this said, we feel it is important to bring to light our strongly-
held belief as to who is behind the articles denouncing us, and that is the
infamous Bill White.
For those of you who are not familiar with this unsavory character, he is a
well-known 'third-positionist' neo-fascist and a racist. That he felt
compelled to post these articles anonymously is proof that we have
effectively combated his schemes in the past; such as the recent removal of
his name from the anti-WEF endorsement list. We urge all of you to refute,
as we have, these ungrounded and untrue rumors being spread about the
Barricada Collective. Furthermore, we suggest that Bill White should, in
the future, be treated by revolutionary anarchists as the racist trash that
he is.

10) The Morality of Genocide
In his essay "What Is Moral"* Bill Pierce, terror-fuhrer of the National
Alliance, expresses an interesting fascist view of genocidal morality.
Opposition to genocide and related matters, Pierce believes,"is social
rather than religious or moral. The concern, I believe, is not about
whether a cause is 'just' or not, whatever that means, but whether it is
socially acceptable or not: that is, socially acceptable in the peer group
to which the person belongs who claims to be concerned about the justness
of my cause. ... it is time to quit making excuses that claim moral
reservations. It is time to face the fact that what is holding you back is
not morality but fear," Pierce concludes.
According to Pierce the fear is based solely on psychological factors like
being called nasty names or being thought lower-class.
But there are certainly other fear factors behind fascist inaction: the
fear that people will invoke Nuremberg, lead them to the gallows, and put a
noose around their neck. It is the fear for home, pension, and private
college for the kids going forever away as the money for them goes to
Morris Dee's clients in a lawsuit. It is the fear that some young anarchist
from AntiRacist Action will hit them in the face with a brick.
Pierce seeks to dissolve millennia of ethical thinking into the psychology
of "fear" on the one hand and hurtful words on the other. Of course this
notion of social and moral subjectivism undercuts those claims to absolute
values the fascist use to defend "white culture" and racial superiority.
But that's how it ends. First some innocent fellow starts with genocide and
before you know it he's inconsistent as well.
Remember that Pierce does not come from the unimportant and uneducated
lunatic wing of U.S. politics; he comes from the important and educated
lunatic wing.
